During the spring, the weather in the Yolo Countryside is usually agreeable, with clear, occasionally windy days that are brisk in the mornings, but pleasantly warm when the sun reaches its peak. Country roads are dotted with wildflowers, winding through a vast expanse of produce fields and almond orchards, their once-white blossoms now replaced with verdant green leaves. Farmers even cultivate some of these native wildflowers for their seeds. The hills and mountains in the distance are lush with foliage, while local towns bustle with a variety of public events and farmers markets.
See the Wildflowers
Spring is all about the blooms in Yolo County and a great way to witness California's wildflower season is by taking a drive through the Yolo Countryside.
You'll see thousands of wildflowers including golden poppies, fiddlenecks, lupine, bluewitch nightshade, pacific pea, milkmaids, indian warrior and more blanketing the hills as you make your way through the rural country roads.
Stop by Hedgerow Farms where you can take a tour of their native seed farm and learn about how to harvest and grow your own native wildflowers at home.
Dine Al Fresco
Get a taste of Spring at local restaurant where menus typically change each season to feature farm fresh produce.
Visit Park Winters Farmstand to enjoy delicious farm bites with gorgeous country views. If their flowers are in bloom, you can also enjoy a pick your own bouquet experience at their flower farm!
Head to Lucy’s Cafe and Pantry where you can purchase freshly picked produce from their farm. Order a pastry or made-to-order sandwich using only local ingredients.
Explore Outdoors
Spring is the perfect time to explore outdoors in the Yolo Countryside because the weather is absolutely perfect. Bring a jacket if you’re going on an early hike, but it might come off after a climb up the Blue Ridge Mountain trail in Stebbins Cold Canyon.
View the beautiful sights of green covered hills and endless wildflowers. As you make your way up the mountains. At the top, enjoy gorgeous views of Lake Berryessa.
Head to Cache Creek Regional Park for a family camping experience! Park reservations open in April.
Visit in the Summer
Summer mornings offer a cool and refreshing start to the day, and the stunning view of a never-ending sunflower field makes watching the sunrise all the more delightful. Although afternoons in the countryside can be scorching, we have a plethora of exciting water activities to help stay cool and refreshed throughout the day. Whether it's fly-fishing in Putah Creek, kayaking in Lake Solano, cruising on a Pontoon in Lake Berryessa, or even white water rafting in Cache Creek, there is no shortage of adventure. As the day comes to an end, what better way to unwind than with a glass of cool wine at a local winery?
Sunflower Fields
Our most popular season! Yolo County is home to some of the most beautiful sunflowers in the world. From roadside sunflower fields to picturesque farms, there’s no better place to experience these cheerful blooms.
Take a roadtrip through the countryside to view endless fields or visit the Park Winters Flower Farm to pick your own bouquet of sunflowers! There are many other sunflower-themed events that take place throughout the county, so be sure to check our calendar of events!
Savor Summer Flavors
Immerse yourself in a palette of summer flavors in the charming Yolo countryside. Marvel at the transformative magic as local restaurants whip up gourmet delicacies with the freshest summer produce.
Located just outside of Davis, the Impossible Acres Pickin’ Patch is open through July 30th to pick fresh blackberries, raspberries and peaches. Open Wednesday – Sunday 8Am-1PM.

Flower & Lavender U-Pick
Experience the magic of the Yolo Countryside during the summer with unique U-Pick experiences. Embark on an adventure at the Mezger Family Zinnia Patch where vibrant zinnias flourish. Admission is free and guests are encouraged to bring their own vase and clippers to take home their favourite flowers.
Visit Capay Valley Lavender, spanning across 28 acres of organic lavender, herbs, figs, pomegranates, citrus, and olives. Until June 30th, visitors can enjoy the opportunity to hand-pick their own lavender!
Summer is also lavender season! Visit Capay Valley Lavender to pick a fresh bouquet.
Visit in the Fall
The Yolo countryside comes alive in fall, turning into a spectacle of stunning autumnal colors and seasonal activities. The charming towns such as Winters, Woodland, and Davis adorn themselves with seasonal decorations like dried floral wreaths, pumpkins, and cornstalks, setting the stage for seasonal festivities and holiday parades. In addition to its visual beauty, the region also offers family-friendly activities such as pumpkin patches, hayrides, and corn mazes at local farms, while harvest season celebrations honor the hard work of local farmers. Explore the vibrant Yolo Countryside this autumn and experience charming pumpkin patches. Try out Dave's Pumpkin Patch's corn maze, hay pyramid, outdoor Halloween movies, hay rides, and their exquisite apple cider donuts.
Venture into Dazzler Farms' extensive pumpkin field, where you can harvest pumpkins directly from the vine and enjoy their petting zoo and fun corn bath. Lastly, stop by Impossible Acres for a fascinating petting zoo the kids will love.
